According to the US Census Bureau, 24 million children in America live in homes without the presence of their biological father. That is 1 of 3 children. Studies show that children growing up in absent-father homes are four times more likely to live in poverty. These are some of the reasons why we are so excited about the success of our Fatherhood Program.
Historically in the pro-life movement, the father has been left out of the decision-making process when a couple is dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Inadvertently alienating the father while naming and blaming him as the cause of the crises. But the tide is turning at Resource Health! Over the last two years we have recognized that engaging, educating and training a father-to-be is good for him, good for the mother of the baby and ultimately good for the child! National statistics indicate that 90% of the time, a woman will choose life if she has the support of the father of the baby. Our Fatherhood Program moves Dad from spectator to participator!
The law says that fathers have no voice and no choice when it comes to choosing life for their baby, but Resource Health is here to help Dad find his voice and the role he will play in raising his child. We know that the Heavenly Father has called men to protect and provide for their families. We want to help Dad take his rightful place. It’s time to change the narrative! Our goal is to involve Dad from the very beginning. A trained Resource Health male advocate walks alongside each young man as he becomes prepared for fatherhood. Last year nearly 500 men were met with encouragement when they came to one of our centers. Fatherhood classes are growing, and men are becoming empowered as active parents and role models. We pray that this work will be confirmed by a generation of healthy families in the communities where we serve.
“He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” Malachi 4:6
